Dal fry is a very popular dish in the Indian cuisine. It is a simple, but a highly nutritious dish that can be made with minimal ingredients.
Dal fry is made by first cooking the dal (lentils) and then frying it using different spices. The dal can be cooked with other vegetables like tomatoes, onions, etc.
It is usually served with rice or roti (Indian bread). Sometimes it might also be eaten as an accompaniment to other dishes like dahi chutney (yogurt relish) or onion salad.
- 1/2 cup toor dal
- 1/4 cup moong dal
- 1/4 cup chana dal
- 1/4 cup masoor dal
- 1 onion
- 2 tomato
- 1 tsp ginger
- 1 tsp garlic
Step 1: Heat ghee in a strain cooker, add toor dal and moong dal to the cooker and boil it for 2-3 minutes.
Step 2: Include ginger, turmeric powder and salt. Blend well.
Step 3: Add water, cover and cook for 3 whistles.
Step 4: In the meantime, heat ghee in a dish, add cumin seeds, ginger and garlic, saute it.
Step 5: Add onions and saute till clear. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
Step 6: Add the heated dal to this mix and cook for stew for 3-4 minutes
Step 7: Heat ghee in a skillet, add some water. Add garlic cloves, entire dry Kashmiri red
Chillies, asafoetida, Kashmiri red bean stew powder and blend well.
Step 8: Cook till it splutters.
Decorate with coriander leaves and serve hot.
